What is a Dad? He's
someone who's taught you ********** Said a little child so small. "I'm following in your footsteps, And I don't want to fall. Sometimes your steps are very fast, Sometimes they're hard to see; So walk a little slower, Daddy, For you are leading me. Someday when I'm all grown up, You're what I want to be; Then I will have a little child Who'll want to follow me. And I would want to lead just right, And know that I was true; So, walk a little slower, Daddy, For I must follow you." author unknown

| A Brief History of
Fathers Day Legend has it that the first Fathers Day celebration was observed in Washington state. In 1909, Louise Smart Dodd, the daughter of Civil War veteran William Smart, proposed a day to honor fathers around the country. Her inspiration was her own father who alone had raised his 6 children after his wife died during childbirth. By 1916 the idea had spread across the country, and was even promoted by president Woodrow Wilson. It wasn't until 1966 that president Lyndon Johnson proclaimed the third Sunday of every June, the official Fathers Day. Today, Fathers Day is celebrated in a number of countries around the world. |
