    Movie Review By Lady IndigoFae

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Written by:  J.R.R. Tolkien (during the late 1930's to mid 1940"s);  Director:  Peter Jackson;   Music Composer and Conductor:  Howard Shore and Enya  Actors:  Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sir Ian McKellan (Gandalf), Ian Holm;   (Uncle Bilbo), Liv Tyler (Arwen), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Sean Bean   (Boromir), Sean Astin (Samwise), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli), Orlando Bloom;  (Legolas), Billy Boyd (Pippin), & Dominic Monaghan (Merry)

This film is the first episode of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  It, in my opinion, was based very close with the book with only some unimportant parts of the story left out, making this a 3 hour movie versus a much longer one.  The summary of this book is about a hobbit (Frodo) who inherits a Magick Ring from his Uncle Bilbo Baggins who found this ring in an earlier adventure. This ring isn't an ordinary ring, in fact, it is the Master ring that rules other magic rings which was forged by the evil Sauron ages before.  Gandalf  figures out the rings importance and realizes it must be destroyed before the evil Sauron can recover it and destroy the world.  Gandalf convinces the young hobbit that he must take this ring to Sauron's Kingdom Mordor, and throw this ring into the volcano at Mt. Doom.   So accompanied by Gandalf, his best friend, Samwise, two other hobbits (Pippin and Merry), two humans, an Elf, and a Dwarf they set out on this dangerous journey.

Peter Jackson's love for this book was truly apparent in this movie.  His work was brilliant, even genius. The New Zealand site chosen to make this movie, and the two other books, was incredible.  The musical score composed and conducted by Howard Shore and Enya was absolutely enchanting and the costumes were superb.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings".  I, myself, have now seen it twice and can't wait until next December for the second movie (The Fellowship of the Ring) to once more fill
the screen with beauty, adventure, magic, intrigue and fantasy.  I believe it is suitable for almost everyone, possibly for those of you who have young children might think about the fact there is some violence and perhaps not suitable for their sensitive nature...

    Poems

    Believe

Once upon a time I had dreams of seeing a faerie  But while waiting my doubts grew and I became weary.
Then one day while I was hiking amongst the trees  I heard a faint noise resembling a sneeze.
Looking around, I became mesmerized by a site   Of a most vibrant rainbow color of light
I watched and starred, my body then froze    As I spotted a wee one dancing on her toes
She giggled and said" What were you wishing to see   Wasn't it  for a faerie, well here I am, it's me!
And trust in your heart, you'll know what is real    You don't have to have sight, only need to feel
You will be rewarded far more than I can say     For if you believe, you'll receive everyday."

    Earth Day 2002

April 22, 1970 marked a day history as the first "Earth Day".  We as faeries and faerie believers have a responsibility and duty to ourselves and mankind to protect and preserve our natural resources, our environment, our world.  It is our obligation to become aware of these dangers happening to our lands, forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans and the air we breathe.  It is also equally important that we learn how to protect and care for our environment.  We have been entrusted by a higher being to keep this beautiful commodity safe and the only way to do this is for all of us to step up to the plate.  This date marks the first day of "Earth Day but we need to live daily protecting and preserving our earth.  Remember what we do today will affect our families for generations to come.

Below I have listed a few things you can do daily, however, there is so much more information out there.  The web is a good source for activities and you can also contact your local government, research libraries or check in with your community centers for information on how you can do your part.  You Can Make A Difference!!!

    Here are a few suggestions:
    1)   Stop using pesticides, you can make your yards green by using natural products.
    2)   Did you know that planting basil, chives, mints, marigold and/ or chrysanthemums are actually insect repelling plants?
    3)   Use compost, in fact, start your own compost pile.  This can be done either in a small section of your yard or even in garbage container.
    4)   Buy your firewood from "downed wood" sources.
    5)   Use recycled paper products.
    6    Stop using chlorine bleach.
    7)   Buy and use mercury-free rechargeable batteries.
    8)   Recycle, recycle and recycle.
    9)   Ride a bike or walk instead of driving when possible.
    10) Think when you buy products made from endangered species.

Congratulations to Rachel aka Starr #321 for winning the Egg Hunting Contest!!

Note from Marafae, As of May 1, 2002 we are no longer going to send membership certificates through the mail,  They will be strickly done online.  9/11 has caused many of our membership packages to be opened and our new members to receive packages missing items.  There seems to be no other solution.  So it will be handled online, this won't affect the present members, but will future.  The won't get faerie dust unless ordered separately.  But all else will be available.  Joining with a friend will have no discounts unless we have a special, this is due to the costs of the website and domain name.  We hope this won't cause any inconvenience to anyone.  Thanks, Marafae

    Hugs, Marafae
