In A Midsummer Night's Faery Tale
(This review was written by  Lady Indigofae and not necessarily the opinion of the Faerie Believers Association)

Written by : A  collaborated effort of Wendy Froud and Terri Windling  Illustrated with  staged  photos of dolls created by:  Wendy Froud:

This is a story about a young tree-root faery name Sneezle and his
heroism.   It begins when Sneezle, who lives in a forest called the Old Oak Wood,  sets out to get the Midsummer crown for King Oberon.  The Faery Queen Titania is found asleep, victim of a powerful magic spell.  It is up to this little wingless sleepy faery's shoulders to save the day.  On this journey he meets fascinating forest characters including the wicked sorceress who put the evil magic sleeping spell on the Queen....This story about Sneezles takes him through a courageous journey, shows his loyalty and teaches him
that being who he is exactly who he should be.  This book, with its illustrations,  is enjoyed by all ages, especially when shared with one another.
[additional review by Marafae--doll maker Wendy Froud (best known for creating Yoda and other creatures for Muppet master Jim Henson)and award-winning fantasy author Terri Windling collaborate to tell the story. Each page of this delightful book is graced with an elaborately staged photo of Froud's doll creations in their natural habitats, paired with Windling's story of Sneezle's unlikely heroism.Kids and adults will enjoy this richly illustrated, romantic fantasy. (Ages 8 and older)]

Princess Amethyst.jpg (419460 bytes)Princess Amethyst on plants, herbs, flowers and trees!

My name is Princess Amethyst and I am a faerie who has had passion for
nature my entire existence.  I'm writing this  column for any and all of you
who loves plants, herbs, flowers and trees.  It is my goal to enlighten and
inspire your creative green thumbs, (which you all have) and to help you
discover gardening as a fun pastime.  Gardening can be a great opportunity
for you and your family to share in and also to give you an outlet from your
normal busy work schedules.  I hope I can show you some of the benefits you
will reap and the rewards our environment will gain.

July is a month for celebrating Independence Day in the United States, so after careful  consideration I choose an herb of "festivity".  The herb that I am talking about is Petroselinum Crispum or commonly known as "Parsley".
Parsley is said to originate from eastern Mediterranean.  It is a biennial plant with two different common types to choose from.  The Italian parsley is the most attractive type with their ruffled leaves and is perfect
for a garnish, whereas the plain parsley, flat leafed, has a great flavor when used in cooked dishes.
It has been said that the early Greeks fed it to their chariot horses to make them run faster and were woven into the victorious crowns given to the winners.  It is also been said that parsley is known to aide in the protection of your homes.  I, myself, keep parsley in pouch that I wear continually as you never know when you may need a little extra added
protection.
Parsley prefers full sun but will endure partial shade and make sure you plant it in a rich well-drained soil.  You can plant parsley after the last freeze in the spring or plant in a container to keep in your kitchen year round.  The leaves can be harvested as soon as the plant is 6 inches tall and either refrigerate to use as fresh or freeze to use in cooking at a
later date.
Seeds are easily found in gardening or grocery stores which includes the planting and growing instructions normally on the back of the packet.  Another idea is to find someone who grows parsley and ask them for some of their seeds and after that  collect and use your own.  I recommend in sharing seeds with each other, it is fun and economical.
Parsley is loaded in vitamin C and is recommended for use in stews, salads and soups. Eating parsley after you have finished a meal, can aide in preventing bad breath especially if you have eaten garlic, help digest your food and counteract gas.
I hope  you have enjoyed this first issue of my new column.  Please feel free to Email me with any questions or suggestions you have.

Until next month.  Blessings to all
Princess Amethyst

Fairy Oracle
by Sulamith Wulfing, Sulamith Wolfing  $7.91
Editorial Reviews  Book Description  www.amazon.com
No other artist has captured the wonders of Fairies and Angels more uniquely than Sulamith Wulfing. Her paintings make this magical world apparent to the naked eye. In this new deck, the Fairy Oracle, forty of her most beautiful paintings have been selected as an inspiration for daily life. The words on each card complement the artwork, making this deck an effective tool for understanding how Fairies can help us overcome our human problems - with just a little bit more humor and joy. This new deck follows the same concept as the first deck by Sulamith Wulfing - the Angel Oracle. However, in contrast to the first deck, the Fairy Oracle cards tend to offer more playful and humorous inspirations.

       THE DREAM FAERIE                     BY ANANYA

I DREAM'T A LITTLE FAERIE WITH TEENSIE WEENSIE TOES
WAS FLYING ROUND MY BEDROOM...THEN LANDED ON MY NOSE
SHE SAID "COME ON, LET'S FLY AWAY" I TOOK HER TINY HAND, AND
SOMEHOW THE SHE LIFTED ME, THOUGH HARD TO UNDERSTAND!

WE FLEW ABOVE THE TREES SO HIGH, THE MOON WAS FULL AND
       BRIGHT, AND
AFTER JUST THE SHORTEST TIME WE SAW THE GREATEST SIGHT, AS
IN THE FOREST DOWN BELOW, BESIDE A LARGE OAK TREE,
THE BIGGEST FAIRY PARTY THAT YOU'D EVER HOPE TO SEE!

I WANTED TO JOIN IN AS WELL, THEY DANCED IN A LARGE RING, AND
SUCH ANGELIC VOICES AS THEY ALL BEGAN TO SING.
I ASKED MY FAIRY FRIEND "PLEASE STOP" BUT SHE JUST FLEW ON BY!
INFURIATING ME SO MUCH - I JUST KEPT SAYING "WHY?"

WE CARRIED ON FOR MILES AND MILES, JUST WHERE I'M NOT TOO
       SURE...BUT
SOON I'D NEARLY HAD ENOUGH, NOT KNOWING WHAT'S IN STORE!
DELIGHTED THEN I SAW WE WERE BACK ABOVE THE WOOD, SO
NICELY ASKED IF I COULD LAND...THE POLITEST WAY I COULD!

SHE DROPPED ME, AND I TOOK A TUMBLE...BUMPING MY POOR HEAD!
AND DID  SEE THE FAIRIES? -NO...I ENDED BACK IN BED
ANOTHER MYSTERY OF LIFE THAT'S HARD TO UNDERSTAND...BUT
ON MY PILLOW LAYS THE WAND SHE HELD WITHIN HER HAND

                   CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Alcohol and Teenage Drinking

I have to wonder why if drinking is so bad, how come our government hasn't banned it, especially when it's contributed to half our road accidents. If it also contributed to millions of family breakdowns, damaged people's health, and stopped them from thinking clearly, you would think that this substance would be public enemy number 1.

But for some strange reason, governments rarely ban alcohol, even though it does all those things mentioned above. For a while it was legal but people managed to get it anyway via black market. Many people in the mountains made a living selling "moonshine", finally the government decided to make it legal.

People who are normally quite sensible can become embarrassing idiots when they over drink alcohol. They may commit crimes because of alcohol, drive recklessly, think they are funny when they are being abusive, or become violent and argumentative after very little drink. If you are sober, you really don't want to be around them when they are drinking alcohol.

Teen drinkers are looking for problems. Or should I say trying to hide from problems.  Teens who drink are often setting themselves up for a lifetime of trouble. That is because drunk teens can easily become drunk adults who continue having all the problems that alcohol causes. Alcohol drains minds and money. It saps sensibility and sure-thinking. It solves nothing, leaving all problems and more to deal with when sober.  It would be better to get counseling to help solve issues that need to be  dealt with.

Teens should avoid alcohol. There is not the slightest reason for Teens to drink alcohol, and there is much against it. The problems that seem to follow alcohol use are:

crime;   violence;   family breakdowns;    causing harm to innocent people;
allowing yourself to lose control of your mind;    giving yourself serious health problems such as liver damage and shrinkage of the brain.

Get high on Nature......stay healthy mind and body and enjoy life to the fullest.
