POETRY -- In Celebration of Mother's Day

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the

carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the "GOOD" living room and  worried much

less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my

grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a

summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I  would have burned the pink candle sculpted

like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children

and not worried about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching

television and more while watching life.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead

of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical,

wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished

every moment realizing that the wonderment growing inside me

was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said,

"Later. Now go get washed up for  dinner."

There would have been more "I love you's"

.....but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every

minute.....look at it and really see it ... live it ... and never give it back.

Fairy Wings

Written by : Lauren Mills (1995)
Illustrated by: Lauren Mills and Dennis Nolan

Fairy Wings is an enchanting story written for children ages 4 to 8 but, in my opinion, can be delightfully enjoyed by all ages. The collaborated effort of Lauren Mills and Dennis Nolan was a success in bringing this story to life with its sweet detailed descriptions in watercolor.

The story is about Fia, a wingless fairy living in a land where gossamer wings are held dear just as humans do with their luxurious tresses. Their wings mean more to them than just about anything else in this world. Fia had been an embarrassment to her 7 sisters and with the “May Dance” approaching, they begged their parents to keep Fia at home. This particular “May Dance” would be an extra special event since the king and queen announced they were going to select the fairy who would become their son’s wife.

Fia’s best friends were a frog, a rat and a crow embarrassing her sisters even more. One day, while riding in a boat, she had made out of a goose’s egg shell, she ran into a fairy boy named Kip. Right away he noticed she was a fairy without wings but it didn’t matter to him and before the day ended he had stolen a kiss and left her an invitation to the “May Dance.

Fairy Wings5.jpg (7716 bytes)To her sisters objections Fia went to the dance and soon she was swept into the air by the prince, none other than Kip. Of course, the King and Queen were outraged at this wingless fairy dancing with their son. Fia rushed away with tears in her eyes. As she was leaving, she suddenly heard the music of the dance come to a halt and terrible sounds of screams from the fairies.
Quickly she went to investigate and found the dreaded and feared Troll had kidnapped all of them. Fia knew the Troll would do something horrible to the fairies, so she, with the help of friends, set out to rescue the kingdom.

This is a Cinderella-like story set in a magical fantasy world with adventure and romance. I, myself, enjoyed the book complete with the beautiful illustrations and do recommend it. You can read it to a small child or just add it to your collection. In either case, I think it’s worth owning.

Finally all of us wall flowers can find out the secrets on ........ How to be popular! You can become popular and make friends very easily. You don't have to be brainy. You don't have to be good-looking. But it's smart to be popular for the right reasons.

:  Wonder what your name is in Japanese! Do you know how to say your name in Japanese? Type your name, or the names of friends, family and faerie members, and learn how to say anyone's name in Japanese!  My Japanese name is Donni.  Note on pronunciation: Japanese people do not emphasize certain syllables as English-speaking people do. Try to keep all syllables roughly with the same emphasis. Enter Doorway to visit site:

  • The ORIGINS AND TRADITIONS OF MAYDAY (when we were young, mom would have us make little baskets out of Oatmeal boxes and fill them with flowers, we would then hang them on the door knobs of our neighbors, ring the bell and run and hide.  This was done on May 1st.  Guess the tradition has gone away.  Do you still do this? Let me know on the bulletin.
