A Field Guide to Irish Fairies

A FIELD GUIDE TO IRISH FAIRIES

by Bob Curran     Andrew Whitson (Illustrator)

Here is a look at a different sort of fairy-those of Ireland. This is a wonderful, detailed book that clarifies the different types of fairies one may come across in Ireland. Some of these fairies are good, and some are bad! We seldom hear about bad  fairies, but alas, they are out there! This guide illustrates the identification, habits, history, appearance,  likes and dislikes, home, and ways of The Grogoch, the Grey Man, the Sheerie, Changelings, The Pooka, The Merrows, The Banshee, The Leprechaun, and the Dullahan. It includes sketches so you know what to look for, and for those mischievouse fairies it instructs you how to guard against them. Also detailed are quotes from variouse travellers who have met up with each particular fae. This book is not only thoroughly entertaining, but a must have for anyone venturing into Ireland. Mainly for adults.

Over The River and Through The Wood

river.jpg (55976 bytes)

[sing along with midi playing]

Over the river and through the wood
To Grandfather's house we go.
The horse knows the way
To carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow.

Over the river and through the wood --
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes
And bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.

Over the river and through the wood
To have a first-rate play.
Hear the bells ring,
Ting-a-ling-ling!
Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day!

Over the river and through the wood,
Trot fast, my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound,
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

Over the river and through the wood,
And straight through the barnyard gate.
We seem to go
Extremely slow --
It is so hard to wait!

Over the river and through the wood --
Now Grandmother's cap I spy!
Hurrah for fun!
Is the pudding done?
Hurray for the pumpkin pie!

Teenage Pregnancybaby.jpg (32714 bytes)

Facts You Should Know About Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage birth rates in this country have declined steadily since 1991. While this is good news, teen birth rates in the U.S. remain high, exceeding those in most developed countries. High teen birth rates are an important concern because teen mothers and their babies face increased risks to their health.

Nearly 13 percent of all U.S. births in 1997 were to teens (ages 15 to 19).
Almost 1 million teenagers become pregnant each year, and about 485,000 give birth.
The teenage birth rate is declining. Between 1991 and 1998, the rate fell by 18 percent (from 62.1 per 1,000 women to 51.1). Still, in 1998 (the most recent year for which data was available), about 5 teenage girls in 100 had a baby.
About one out of four teen mothers go on to have a second baby within two years after the birth of their first baby. Confidential Help line:  1-888-4-options  or website: http://www.thehelpline.org/      Teenage Pregnancy Fact Pages

Oct. 12,2002  Hello fellow believers, in July I was gardening and when I first bent over my colourful cosmos flowers I was nearly hit in the eyes by a brown flying fairy. Its wings were long and narrow like a maple seed, it was too small to be a humming bird and too big to be a dragonfly ? Humm, I was perplexed. Also all summer long at three a.m. I would wake to find a long shimmering yellow flashing, fluttering light over my collectible shoes in my cabinet? I read somewhere that fairies are attracted to colourful stones, as my daughter also pointed out, `` mommy, don`t you know, fairies love bright colourful stones!`` Submitted by  Guy Jolicoeur [guyjolicoeur@hotmail.com]

HAVE A FAERIE HALLOWEEN!!!!!
 Written by Lady Indigo Fae
Halloween is that special time of year
When ghosts, goblins and witches appear
Children in costumes marching down the street
Will flood the dark night and yell “Trick or Treat”
And me a Faerie so brave and true
Will run and hide when I hear the word “BOO”
So hiding out under that old apple tree
Is exactly the place you won’t find me...
Now one last thing I would like to scream
BRIGHT BLESSINGS AND A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Hi, My name is Kristina,... My personal story begins at school actually.. During Physics Class I drew a very detailed picture of a faerie. It was unusual because I've never really drew a faerie before, nonetheless thought about them. However,... My friend and myself drove home form school, and sat in front of a tree in my yard.. To my amazement, I found a crystal at the base of the tree... I didn't know what it meant at the time, however when I picked it up I realized it was a memory stone. If you hold it in your hand, you'll start having names that you'll never heard before go threw your mind... It was weird. My mentor at the time said that a faerie gave me the stone, in thanking me for drawing the picture....  Tina22880@aol.com

Dear Faerie Believers, Below is a wonderful poem. It was written by Audrey Hepburn when she was asked to share her "beauty tips." It was read at her funeral years later.

face.jpg (7827 bytes)

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.

The first bulletin company went under.....the second, the one you've been seeing had tons of pop-ups and it was a pain...so Darren aka Rainshadow made us one using frontpage extensions.......and now we have a lovely new one without pop-ups.  AND we can import pictures and write in color and Bold the type...But some   has to be done using HTML (the fancy stuff) there is a FAQ which is a HELP on how to do the fancy stuff, so if you feel adventurous, go for it....
