A
Request for all :
- September 11, 2002 is soon approaching.
On that day, please wear red, white and blue to work or school to
show your support for those who lost their lives on 9~11~01 and to
honor the heroes who worked to save them and the families left
behind. At noon your time on September 11,2002, no matter where
you are or what you are doing, stop, put your hand on your heart,
and say the Pledge of Allegiance out loud or to yourself and say a
prayer for our nation.
If all of us do this together in every time zone around the world,
we will have a powerful chain of thoughts surrounding us.
- **************
- The International Association of Fire Chiefs is also
organizing a nation wide memorial service, where every Fire Dept.
across the national will lower the flag to half mast at 9:30 am.
and at 10:05 will sound their
station bell and again at 10:25 am. EST. You should be able to
find this information by searching IAFC.

- Greetings!! This column has been
created to introduce you to the world of "aromatherapy". Its based on
an ancient principal that one's body, mind and spirit should be in
balance to achieve perfect harmony.
The sense of smell is one of our least developed senses, yet, it
produces many of our responses such as anger, comfort, fear, relaxation
even hunger. It can bring back memories long forgotten and mark new
ones for the future. Smells can even influence your attitudes and
decisions either in a positive or negative way.
There are so many ways to utilize aromatherapy into our everyday
lives. I plan to provide you with some ideas and give you a few basic
tools. My objectives are to assist you in achieving a more positive
attitude, tips for stress relief, ideas on how to create a warm comfy
home environment and,
most importantly, to show you the benefits of being good to yourself.
Keep in mind that since all of us are different, each of us will react
to smells differently. What may benefit me, may not necessarily benefit
you, so allow your nose and creativity to flow in selecting just the
right fragrances.
Essential oils
can be used in a number of ways and alone or combines with
other oils. These oils are highly fragrant, non-oily plant essences
which
are volatile and will evaporate easily. Store them in a cool dark area
in a
dark colored bottle. They are insoluble in water but dissolve easily in
vegetable oils, wax and alcohol. Before using any essential oils, find
out
the contra-dications. There are a few safety precautions you should
be familiar with when using essential oils and I have listed them on a
separate pate. Please read
through them carefully and if you have any questions or concerns talk to
your
physician beforehand.
Ylang -Ylang
Today, our very first aromatherapy article, we are going to discuss
ylang-ylang (pronounced eelang-eelang) which means "the flower of
flowers". Its perfume has been valued for thousands of years throughout
Southeast Asia where it is grown in the Philippines, Madagascar and
Java. The fragrance is exotic, sensual and richly sweet.
Ylang-ylang has a calming, uplifting effect and is considered to be a
very spiritual oil. It is excellent for skin care and aides in a
peaceful sleep. It also is beneficial for instilling confidence,
encouraging expression and as an aide for depression.
There are many ways to use ylang-ylang such as in a bath, or for a
relaxing or luxurious massage, and vaporization. Below are just a few
suggestions. All you have to do is take a deep smell of this erotic
oil, and you are on your way.
Until next month remember to be good to yourselves.

Butterfly
Garden
- This month we are going to talk about
growing a butterfly garden. To us
faeries, butterflies are an entertaining vision of pure enjoyment when
watching them flutter and flitter about in their rainbow colored
costumes.
They are among the most beautiful insects on the face of this earth
and each year as progress continues, the number of butterflies
dwindle. According to the Native American Legend "To make a wish
come true, whisper it to a butterfly. Upon these wings it will be
taken to heaven and granted. For they are the messengers of the Great
Spirit". Mystic wisdom faeries share with the Indians and I hope that
I can pass on to you.
- In this article, I will go over with the
you the basic information necessary to grow your own little
showplace. I will give you a list of plants, flowers, bushes, go over
their drinking necessities and even talk about habitats for those of
you who really want to get serious. These gardens can be placed in a
large space or in small areas such as containers.
The list goes on as far as your imagination. So let us begin! These
gardens must be planted in the sun as butterflies are cold blooded
creatures and need to warm their wings. Try and do this in area that
has some wind blockage and add rocks to your garden for
butterflies to sunbathe on.
- Include a good mixture of host and
nectar plants. The nectar plants will attract many butterflies who
will drink from the blossoms. Nectar is their energy source needed
for flying. They also prefer the plants to be in groups of the same
color versus having single plants of several colors. Select different
type of plants to be assured of blossoming throughout their season.
They do prefer the colors of pink, purple and white and single
flowered plants.
- The host plants attract the female
butterflies for laying their eggs on the leaves, giving the newly
caterpillar a ready source of food. The growth cycle of the butterfly
from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly takes 2 weeks to 6
months depending on the species. Without the proper host plants, the
caterpillar will die from starvation. Butterflies also require a
water source. They puddle (suck) their water through the mud or wet
sand. By doing this, it satisfies their need for water along with
giving them their minerals and salts embedded in the earth.
- Try and provide them a muddy spot around
your garden to insure their stay. Since they are cold blooded,
butterflies must have shelter from the weather for their protection.
The shelter can be as simple as an undisturbed wood pile or a
purchased butterfly house. Butterfly houses can make a lovely
addition to your garden. They are designed to keep the butterflies
out of the wind and rain with no access for birds to homestead. Check
with your local nurseries, the internet or books for the types of
butterflies in your area. I promise you a colorful world that will
thrill your children and entertain you for hours.
Blessings to all

This a book with lots to
do-especially fun for those with kids or those who are kids at heart! It
offers simple, straightforward ways to celebrate each of the four

is a festival; the manner in which faeries acknowledge the season, A
feast; recipes for a delicious faerie snack, A favor; a recipe to make a
treat for our animal friends, A game to play, and A gift; something
special, made from nature, to give a friend. And tucked away at the end
of the book, is a little fold out faerie cottage-to use when collecting
treasures, or as i did, as a little cottage for my faerie garden! This
