Now for our lesson in Astrology,
I present Madam Gemini and her companion Poo
Poo consults Madam Gemini, whom she calls GiGi
Madam GiGi and Poo discuss

Aquarius

Madam GiGi and Poo Discuss Aquarius: The Water Carrier

Poo:  GiGi do people born under the sign of Aquarius drink a lot of water?

GiGi: No Poo, this sign is that of a water carrier. Those born under this sign are usually great humanitarians. They are people other people go to for advice and often for total cleansing. Water is used as a purifier of mind, body and spirit and those born under this sign are often gifted with the ability to heal.

Poo: I have read and listened to many different stories about water and how it is used by some to baptize them in their faith; and as an internal and external body cleanser.

GiGi: If you think of people born under this sign as being the water, just think of all the wonderful things they can accomplish, if they set their minds to do them! And, Poo, many born under this sign strive to do good for their own benefit, as well as, for humanitarian reasons.

Poo: I have witnessed gnomes being cleansed by an ancient, in a clear stream, deep within the forest. The ancient one sits upon a rock and uses a big red urn to scoop water from the stream. Then he pours the water from the urn over gnomes who appear to enjoy this ritual.

GiGi: A rare site indeed!

Wood Carvers

I recently seen a fantastic carved wooden gnome sold on the EBay auction site. I corresponded with the winner of the piece asking her to provide us with more information on it. Here is her response.

Hi there.  Sorry it took so long to respond about the gnome I purchased at auction.  My email is folkloredolls@thefolkloredollcompany.com if you have any specific questions about him.  I can tell you that he is about 7" tall .  He has a conical red hat, bright blue tunic, brown belt with an attached purse, grey pants and brown clogs.  There is a carvers mark in the back, on the left hand side (on the wooden base he is carved onto)which looks like a capital "T" with a capital "V" tucked under the left side and a capital "E" tucked under the right side.  There is also the number 78 on the right hand side (date I assume). His hair is light grey, and his eyes seem to be pinheads, surrounded by a hazel brown iris.  On the front of the base it says NISSE RIKTIG STORRELSE (the o in "storrelse is the scandinavan letter that is actually the o with a slash through it-- I can't remember how to get at that letter from the keyboard).  My father says that translates to "Nisse The right size" (He is Norwegian so I'll take his word for it).  I really think it looks much more like a Swedish tomte, as the blue tunic is a very Swedish shade.  If you do an article on him and need some pictures, I can take some and email them to you.  I can't believe I actually got such a nice piece (I feel guilty--like I stole it!).

Take care, Marie Solli

Wow, what a treasure and a challenge for all you carvers!

 Book Reviews:

"Nils Discovers America--Adventures with Eric" is a softcover book authored by Julie Jensen McDonald. It was published by Penfield Press in 1990. There are 94 pages with many drawings. This book is no longer in print and can be found as a used book.

This is the story of Nils the nisse from Norway, who sets off for the New World in the 19th century. The wooden chest he hides in is lost for more than 100 years, and Nils wakes up to find present day USA and meets his first human friend, Erik Dahl.

This book is for children 6-11 years of age. It is also nice for anyone interested in their Norwegian heritage. Vesterheim, the Norwegian-American Museum, in Decorah, Iowa, is a big part of this story.

Notes from friends:

Dear Gnome Site:
For a long time now, I have been looking for a copy of "Gnomes" on VHS. Any
idea where I might find a copy of it?

Thanks,

 Frank Galloway   frank.c.galloway@intel.com

************************

Good Day Frank.

Here is a link to a web site where you can find a list of the David the Gnome episodes that were created and available on VHS. As far as I know they are only available on VHS as previously viewed, through the auction sites (www.ebay.com I found to be the best source).

I also know that the book "Gnomes" by Wil Huygen and illustrated by Rien Poortvliet was put on a cd, but in a format that will not play on most cd players.

You must have some "rather antique" equipment to view it.

It was produced by Philips.

Respectfully,

Gnome Health -
Gnomes never let stress make a memory of their mental faculties...

Gnomes understand that chronic exposure to stress hormones may interfere with memory performance, so to keep stress-induced memory lapses away, they schedule mini tension breaks throughout their days. A few minutes of deep breathing exercises, gentle yoga stretches, or positive visualization helps them to stay sharp...especially when trolls are out-and-about. I use these methods to help reduce stress in my day. My favorite visualizations are of Boubliwae, and when deep breathing, I envision actual forest smells.

I am the Gnome Enchantress of plant life. This month we learn about the plant:

Aloe Vera

Today we are going to dwell into the world of the Aloe Vera plant.  This plant known to gnomes as the “medicinal plant.”  The aloe vera is a cactus-like plant with green dagger shaped leaves filled with clear viscous gel.  It can grow 2 to 3 feet tall and will have tubular yellow flowers.

How do Gnomes deal with death?

In responding to a question, "Why are there no real photographs of gnomes?" I felt obligated respond as follows:

"Greetings my friend.

If you happen to be lucky enough to spot a real gnome and try to photograph it, it will not show up in the developed photograph. However, gnomes make their presence known to a few chosen people. This is how some people are able to sketch and mold them.

The only time a gnome will show up is when it's spirit has left its body. Sad, but true. Most gnomes are lucky enough to live to a very old age, and since they know when their end is at hand, they travel to their special sacred final resting place. Much like elephants do. Animals are close friends of gnomes and it is the duty of the animals to dispose of any gnome bodies they come across. If a gnome dies from some tragic accident (and it does happen), it's body is disposed of by their animal friends in methods that may not appeal to us humans. For instance, up in northern Canada where I reside, we have grizzly bears. It is the duty of a grizzly to digest  deceased gnomes, while other smaller animals will bury deceased gnomes deep within vacated rabbit dens.

So, it is for this reason you will never likely see a photograph of a gnome unless the photographer has a secret that I am unaware of, or has highly sophisticated equipment.

To see a sad photo of a grizzly bear disposing of a deceased gnome." read below.

A ROYAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Royal Followers,
2003 is going to be the year of Inspiration.

I, QueenGnome, put on my thinking gnomal cap over the holidays (something like the sorting hat that is used at Harry Potters school, Hogwarts) and was gifted with lore about a unique, mysterious evolutionary occurrence.
FAIRY
ANGEL
GNOME
LEPRECHAUN
ELF
A Fagle is the result of major leaps in evolution. They are new beings, however without voices. Due to evolutionary dynamics they are able to communicate without uttering a sound!

You will meet some of my Fagle friends over the next year. Fagles have been rapidly reproducing and I know some of you are going to befriend one or two of your own in 2003.

Extremely gifted, Fagles currently reside in much the same environments as gnomes, but due to their intelligence and different transpositions are able to mingle with other realms including humankind.

Fagles possess fairy like beauty,
abiding serenity and infinite calm of angels,
bodies and wisdom of gnomes.
Their emerald green eyes twinkle with leprechaun playfulness and wit,
and have elfin hair that glistens like washed ocean sand.
All the result of major cosmos evolution.

Fagles are here to inspire each and every one of us to create something special in 2003.

Watch for the next chapter of Lil'Owl's Boubliwae Adventures wherein you will be introduced to an inspiring Fagle.

Respectfully yours, QueenGnome@foundus.com
