Now for our lesson in Astrology,
I present Madam Gemini and her companion Poo
Poo consults Madam Gemini, whom she calls GiGi
Madam GiGi and Poo discuss

(March 21-April 20)

GiGi & Poo discuss Aries the Ram

GiGi: Poo the colours red and pink are favourites for those born under the sign of Aries. They also treasure diamonds!

Poo: Wow, that sure sounds exotic.

GiGi: Yes, and they are born leaders who crave action just like their constellation sign - the ram.

Poo: Ariete the shipbuilder always constructed his ships with mastheads of the ram and boy could he be argumentative sometimes.

GiGi: That may be because he is ruled by the planet Mars, which we know is a real aggressive influence to be under.

Poo: Gigi, are there any other zodiac signs that we have not discussed?

GiGi: Yes, Poo one more - Taurus the Bull. Then perhaps you might like to learn about Tarot cards.

Poo:  Oh yes, please.

Poo can be seen in her full beauty at www.bobbiesfaeriehugs.com/Poo.htm

Soft Dolls - 21 inch garden gnome pattern by:

Hemer House Designs, Site G, C-43, RR 2, Nanaimo, BC Canada V9R 5K2 Phone: 250-722-3134 I purchased this doll pattern from the Ebay auction site.I am not the creator. The Sewing Basket, PO Box 327, (168 McLeod Avenue), Salmon Arm BC V1E 4N5 Phone: 250)832-3937 owns the copyright. I thought it strange that there was no date on the pattern, so that suggests that it may be old. Some of these individually produced patterns go back to the 80s so it could be 20 years old.

The wonderful lady who sold this pattern to me indicated that she is going to produce a pattern for a gnome doll and when it is done she will let us know!

FEATURE ARTIST:

Scott Powers, Wood Carver of Woodspirits and Walking Sticks

Hand carved walking sticks by S.D. Powers. Each one is individually carved from select hardwoods. Maple is his wood of choice, for both strength and durability. Although much harder to carve, it holds detail very nicely - and you can't beat the beauty of Maple. A self-taught carver, Scott's works of art continue to be sought after by collectors and walking enthusiast across the country. Rubber tip on bottom.

Scott Powers provided us with this bio:

I have been carving for a living for 11 years now. The bulk of my carving is in the form of Woodspirits - also called Knotheads - as they are carved from Pine knots which I spend considerable time searching in the woods for - folks have referred to these as gnome faces as well. I sell only through e-bay {my ebay name is Scottsknots}. It is great dealing one-on-one with my customers. This is in contrast to the years I spent crossing the western states doing art shows - although a good time with my family on the road and seeing the sites. Now working from home has also given me the time to construct our own log home which I drew the plans and am building from scratch. When I am finished in the spring - I will start construction on my new log studio (Lord willing).

The walking sticks I am carving are mostly from Maple. The strongest and most durable wood I know of - I do take requests - but everything goes on e-bay - so far this has worked great for everyone.

Watch for Scott's work on www.ebay.com or email him with special requests at hapscot@yahoo.com

Miniature Collectors: Here is a site for a lady who crafts miniatures and travels the world with her wee folk. Thanks to member Ala-Asa/Nancy Faye Roach - Port St. Lucie, FL for this information. Sue Thwaite has a gnome home and mini gnomes available. Here is what Ala-Asa wrote: "I attended the Ft. Lauderdale Miniature Show Preview last night.  While I was there, I saw that one of the vendors Lady Bug (Sue Anne Thwaite) was selling the beautiful teensy tiny gnomes at her table.  By the time I fought my way through the waiting line at her table, she had already sold out of them. She had about ten different gnomes in different poses.   She did tell me that she will be making more and will email me when they are available again."

The mail address for Sue Thwaite is:

Her telephone number is:  1-301-865-1984.
Her fax number is:                301-865-4705

I found the site a bit slow to download - but worth the wait.

There was an article written in their local newspaper that may interest you, you can read it at www.riverreporter.com/issues/02-11-07/gnome.htm

Maria advised that there are two things that the journalist didn't get correctly. First, he wrote under the picture that Freddy made the elf which was actually made by an Argentinean, good friend of Maria and Freddy. And second, the last paragraph was not quoted correctly.
"There are 2 things that the journalist didn't get correctly
First. he wrote under the picture that Freddy made the elf which happens to have been made by an Argentinean good friend of ours.
Second. on the last paragraph we stated that quartz crystals are silicon dioxide (come from water) and that our bodies connect with their energies because we ourselves have it in our bodies which is 70% water and that they energies are the greatest amplifiers of other energies and it has been one of the most important discoveries since the 60's (Silicon Valley) also on the development of digital electronics, computers, watches, etc."

Gnome Health -  Red Fir  -
This plant was used quite widely by North Americans Gnomes.  An infusion of the bark was used as a tonic and to treat stomach ailments, TB, hemorrhoids and various minor complaints.  The pitch, or resin, was also used to treat colds, sore throats, etc.

Gnome Cuisine

Gnome families get extra doses of cancer-fighting foliate by cooking up three-bean chili during this time of the year. They store dried beans in their larders and a gnomette can cook a large pot of chili using just one bean! If gnomes make a three-bean chili it means that company is expected. Gnomes often have chili-cook-offs where clans get together to compete and celebrate! Mama gnomes know that Chili made with extra beans is very nutritious (and lean because gnomes use no meat) and that beans are an excellent source of lean protein, fiber, and cancer-fighting foliate. Helpful Hint: In a human study, those whose diets were high in foliate had a lower risk of developing cancer of the colon or the rectum compared to people whose diets contained little foliate.

What Happens at the Equinox?

March 20, 2003, is a date that most of us recognize as symbolic of changing seasons. As weSource: Arttoday.com welcome spring, people south of the equator are actually gearing up for the cooler temperatures of autumn.

Far from being an arbitrary indicator of the changing seasons, March 20 (March 21 in some years) is significant for astronomical reasons. On March 20, 2003, at precisely 8:00 p.m. EST (01:00 Universal Time—March 21), the Sun will cross directly over the Earth's equator. This moment is known as the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. For the Southern Hemisphere, this is the moment of the autumnal equinox.

Notes from friends:

Hi Everybody,

After a lot of thought, I've decided  NOT to do International Gnome Day again this year. It's too much work for one person and translating all the e-mails needed last year into five different different languages took me ages.

What I can do instead is to maintain all the links on the current IGD page permanently as a Gnome Website Portal at this URL www.beryl-the-gnome.co.uk/portal.htm It will be up later today or tomorrow and I can add links to it as I hear about new ones. If you find new links that I don't know about and send them to me I'll gladly put them up. A link to to portal page will always appear on my web site.

The portal could also be used to link people without web sites by e-mail but I won't put open mail addresses up on it. To avoid Spam people can ask me to pass their addresses on to others and I'll send them via the Blind Carbon Copy system to anyone interested. Meanwhile look out for my own version of the Lord Of The Rings which will be up in mid-February.

Sorry about this and hope you don't mind,

Regards, Beryl the Gnome

GNOME RAILROAD

My granddaughter sent me your website.
Perhaps because we own the GNOME Railroad.  It is over 4 scale miles
long.  The scale is 1/8 ".  We haul many friends on our trains and they enjoy
all the gnomes we have along the right of way.  If you ever are near Massillon, Ohio, you are welcome to drop in and visit the Great Northern Ohio & Massillon Eastern Railroad.  Call first 330-478-5627 or email us at gnome@ameritech.net  Regards, Larry and Kathy

Upcoming Gnome Actor - Mesa, the Gnome!

Meet Mesa the Gnome who is scheduled to appear in a comedy by Doug Curtis of Ghostriver Theatre. This is a play about two men who travel south to Mesa, Arizona for the winter. The older man has a gnome that he lays down whenever he takes a nap. When he wakes up he places the gnome upright. This is done to let his neighbours know that he is ok. QueenGnome was honoured to recruit the gnome actor for this play. Here is a picture of Mesa, the Actor.
