I like very much your site about Poorvliet's gnomes! Poortvliet is a great artist and since when I was a little child the book of the Gnomes was one of my favorite. In italy , where I live, the two books of Poortvliet and Huygen about gnomes are quite famous and were published many times and in different sizes. 1) the book of the gnomes/ ( italian title: Gnomi - original title: Leven en werken van der Kabouter, 1976 - printed in italy by Rizzoli in 1978/85/94 2) the secrets of the gnomes/( italian title: Il segreto degli Gnomi - original title: De oproep der Kabouters, 1981 - printed in italy by Rizzoli in 1982/87

In the
italian version of the first book there is a map of gnome diffusion in
Italy ( see map) and the same comment are published
above the american gnome map. The italian gnome population probably could be composed
mostly by wood gnomes (in the northern italy, especially in the
Alps area ) and by dune gnomes in the southern
part . Some house gnomes live in cities like Pisa,
Florence, Lucca etc.
