Michael Flatley takes to the stage in a stunning Celtic dance spectacular which re-tells Irish folk legend in a dazzling and updated style.

Join us when time stood still and Erin was goddess of all...The stories had all been written down and everyone knew their parts. But the ancient clans, sitting in their stone circles, heard mumblings and the spirits dream was troubled. A new dark power had emerged to challenge the Lord of the Dance.

Filmed at the Point Theatre in Dublin "Lord of the Dance" takes Irish dancing to spectacular new heights. Orchestrated and conducted by Anne Dudley, inspiring original music by Ronan Hardiman and exhilarating dance starring the sensational Michael Flatley with supporting characters Bernadette Flynn, Daire Nolan, Gillian Norris, Helen Egan and Anne Buckley Lord of the Dance is a rare and magical experience.

Whatever spark was ignited in Michael Flatley at conception or birth has grown into a mighty and many-tongues fire. A concert flautist and dancer whose grace and athleticism have brought World Championships as well as a Guinness Book world record for tapping speed - all of these things mark out and amplify the special talent that burst out on the Eurovision stage; but none of them explains it.
Eurovision was a seamless triumph. Yet if there was a moment when its full adrenaline rush began to erupt, it was when Michael Flatley burst onto the stage and into the world's eye as if from a catapult, stepping with the sensuality of a ballet dancer and the swagger of a matador.

Michael Flatley's father is from Sligo, with its rich associations with Irish music, dance and legend. Yet it was in his mother's county of Carlow that chicago-born Flatley first tried the Irish steps. His grandmother had been Leinster champion.

Aged 11 when he began to dance, Michael Flatley was told by a teacher that it was really too late to start. No doubt his own sheer drive spurred him to continue. There was also the influence of the legendary Kevin Massey, whom Michael Flatley salutes as the greatest Irish dancer of all. The young Chicago man went on to become the first American to win the All-World Championships in Irish Dancing...........................

The honours have flooded his way: * the youngest ever recipient of a National Heritage Fellowship from President Ronald Reagan; recognition by the American National Endowment for the Arts as one of his country's greatest performers; a Master of Dance Award for his contribution to his chosen art. In 1991 the National Geographic Society declared Michael Flatley a Living Treasure.
In the future, Michael Flatley may direct his ambitions toward the big screen. It is hard to imagine him meeting anything but success. For now, all his energy is fully focused on .Lord of the Dance - The Show.
